Fall is almost upon us here in NJ and needless to say it’s a very exciting time. Fritz is coming along nicely and eagerly awaiting his first season of fun in the field.

We have had some trials and tribulations in the past couple months. Training continued through the end of August when a near tragedy struck. Fritz was frolicking in the shallow water at The Stafford Forge WMA and lost an encounter to what we believe was a broken bottle. In true wirehair fashion he didn’t so much as whimper. He came to the bank and sat down licking his paw. Fred realized something was definitely wrong when Fritz wouldn’t come when called. He was about 60 yards away. As I got closer I could see the pool of blood he was sitting in and the blood that was pumping out of his leg from the severed artery. I patched him up and off to the Vet we went in a hurry. I looked much worse than he upon our arrival as I was covered in his blood. Fortunately the cut was almost at the bottom of the artery and no nerve damage was done. After a few days of being spoiled and loafing around the house Fritz was feeling much better. He wasn’t allowed to swim for a couple weeks which hurt his feelings but he is all better now and running around like nothing ever happened to him.

For the folks out there that needlessly litter and throw their trash wherever they so please. Think about what you can do, what if it was your dog or even worse, your child that gets severely injured, maybe even to the point that it is fatal.
